A giant whale in Jesmonite!

February 19 is Whale Day. As its name suggests, it is dedicated to protecting and defending whales and, more generally, all marine mammals.

On this occasion, we wanted to put this beautiful animal in the spotlight, as well as the wonderful work done by our customer Christian Bogaert, whom we had the pleasure of interviewing!

Tell us a little about yourself. What do you do for a living?

Pleased to meet you, Christian Bogaert, Industrial Design graduate from ENSAV La Cambre

I’ve had the pleasure of working for 47 years in the fields of set construction (for photo and video advertising, cinema, event companies, store windows), exhibition stand design and construction, and the construction of giant objects.

In fact, on International Whale Day, we’d like to highlight your achievements for NEMO 33. Could you give us some information about this project? (Products used,…)

I was contacted by Mr. John Beernaerts (Nemo 33) to create a set and build accessories for his other establishment near Geneva (2-dimensional sets to form part of a giant fresco and the construction of a mini scooter-type submarine).
After this activity, Mr. Beernaerts entrusted me with the creation of the whale shark for Nemo 33 in Uccle.

Under the guidance of Francis(FINRES), I made the whale shark in
Jesmonite
. A wonderful discovery of this material!

Would you have any advice for someone who might feel inspired to accomplish such a feat?
It’s a fascinating job that requires a sense of volume, a bit of skill and a lot of perseverance.
